Not sure about which bank would be good but whichever bank you choose make sure that they give you a statement of how much interest you paid over the year. Most people don't realize that you can deduct interest paid for a home loan in India is tax deductible in the US. Just FYI.

You make a good point. However, since I have mentioned both EB and FB in the article, I think it is appropriate to include that it can in fact take 20 years to get the GC. The Senate bill does have provisions to ameliorate both EB and FB backlogs, as far as I remember.

Perhaps it may be a good idea to mention that with economies of countries like India on an accelerated growth path, these highly educated, skilled and experienced professionals that are an asset to America are increasingly preferring to (or seriously thinking about) returning to their home countries.
Another scenario - 20-25 years down the road, America will no longer be a leader any more given the growth of India and China. To sustain the technological and economical leadership of America, it is critical that we act now and fix a broken immigration system, and grant those legally here for a number of years, with approved Green Card petitions the pride of actually becoming permanent residents and eventually citizens as quickly as possibly.

Here is my point. I spend several hours 3-4 hours at least every day looking through the forum posts hoping to find ways i can contribute to efforts.
You should find ways to participate if you click on the orange Action Alerts link.
Also, click on "Advocacy" and "Volunteer" in the blue menu bar at the top of every page. You will find TONS of things to do on an ongoing basis.
Did you:
Join your state chapter?
Send letters for FOIA campaign?
Send letters on the spate of I-485 denials?
Send letters to Senators regarding Housing Crisis?
Participate in Team IV?

If we start the fasting and rallying the American people will view it as nothing but "Countries of the East" sending their millions to other countries to show their strength in numbers.
Another thing. There was a suggestion of starting "free coaching classes" for kids as a volunteer service. Excellent Idea IFFF AND ONLY IFFF we are doing it With the actual intent of providing education to the under-privileged. Otherwise, once immigrants' voices are heard, and relief comes through, guess what will happen? These coaching classes will stop dead in their tracks. This will attract NEGATIVE publicity sending a message that the so called "Volunteer Effort" was nothing but a PUBLICITY STUNT.

If we can collect some data regarding the home purchasing trends among skilled immigrants vis. their GC status, that would be great.
For example:
% of people who have a home while they are in H1B status: a%
% of people who have a home while they are in EAD status: b%
% of people who have a home while they are in GC status: c%
% of people who have a home while they are US Citizen: d%
If we can collect the data for the variables a, b, c and d and if the value of c is significantly higher than a or b, then we do have a strong case.

Agree with you, tinamatthew, regarding H1C visa, but my emploier does not want to waist his time for this, the chanses are too slim to get one of 500 H1C..., so I decided not to mention about it.
Maybe.... , the july victory might help, I just hope they will approve my DS230 this time, because previous DS230 was out of date, and they asked to submit it again.
But it is only one case, other nurses are still in the long process with CGFNS, and VisaScreen, then I140, with the huge backlog in the Visa Center , and so on...I am not against all these procedures, I believe it is a necessity, but the long immigration process for nurses is neither fair nor correct from healthcare and economic point of view.
So I believe for the majority of foreign nurses the July VB is not helpful in anyway.
Schedule A is our only option!

I think more than 90% of companies in service industries have more than 50% emps in H1/L1. The fees may be indirectly passed to the employees in terms of cut in salary or cut in profit sharing.

Not sure if anyone else has faced this so wanted to put this out: I own a home and have a loan on it since 2003 (I was on H1 when i took the loan), now that the ARM is about to adjust i am in the market for refinance.
There is however a question on all the loans underwritten by freddy/fanny asking for immigration status and if the answer is EAD the loan is denied. They even sent me an explanation of denial.....:confused:
A loan application can be denied for any reason and as amatter of fact due to current financial mess, lenders are very wary. So don't be surprised by denial. Try another place.
I secured loan after 2.5 months of constant battle. My lender tried all possible means to discourage me and only after I fired-back with technical arguments did they clear my loan. But than I was also asking for 5% down, which nowdays is no more entertained by lenders.
Try different sources and atleast you have the house in possesion. You will get a new lender, don't worry!

It is important to know that despite of severe visa retrogression and random visa cutoff date movements, USICIS or DOS hasn’t released any official information on how many Adjustment of Status applications are pending at USCIS under various categories which leaves thousands of AOS(Adjustment of Status) applicants in complete darkness and dependent on guessing games by various Law firms.
A green card application requires enormous amount of efforts and money from the beneficiary and his/her employer. People who are waiting for 7-8 years now would have had already spent average $15,000-$20,000, in maintaining their statuses and keep the Green Card process going on. Being stuck in a green card process keeps us bonded with 1 employer, job type etc.
We need to know if there is any light at the end of the tunnel. We need to know for how long we have to live our life in limbo. If there is hope than we need to be patient and plan to live like that for another 1-2 years. But if there’s no light at the end of the tunnel than we need to move on with our careers and other family commitments. Only your office and USCIS can help us by releasing statistics on the number and categories of applications pending with USCIS people waiting in this category can plan their lives accordingly.
It will be a great help if DOS or USCIS could tell us about the number of AOS application pending at USCIS along with their Categories(EB-3, EB-2, EB-1) and chargeable country.
We have been waiting for a decade and continue to wait would it be reasonable to request you for some guidance with regards to the Visa allotment. I request your office to provide some statistics on home many Adjustment of Status applications are pending at USCIS.
We understand that you work with in the limits of the law as set by the Congress and are limited by various constraints that are beyond your agency realm of work. We appreciate your hard work and sincerely thank you for all the hard work.

At least I won't give u red dots if you can enlighten us how to get us out of this mess. And yes, we do want our green card so I don't think we can stop the process or stop spending money on that. Also please advise us how to bring all 70K people under one umbrella?
Sanjeev - I personally feel there is no easy solution for this. Our efforts must be well organized and there has to be geniune effort. A lot of people who post here are all frustrated and angered and they channelize their anger and frustration through these forums whereas instead if it is channelized in a positive way - our campaigns will be more effective and we can reach our goals.
